Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC), corporate headquarters building is in Foothill Ranch, within the Irvine Ranch Water District service area. KMC offers a diverse line to Power Sports Products including Motorcycles, ATV’s, Personal Watercraft, and Side-by-Side units.

KMC learned about the WaterStar program from IRWD staff doing outreach at a Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce event. IRWD staff worked with Kawasaki’s Human Resources and Administration Director Tom Porter and Facilities Manager Mike Brinkman to facilitate WaterStar Certification.

Approximately 300 employees work in the KMC Foothill Ranch headquarters. Due to the building’s high-efficiency, low-flow indoor plumbing fixtures, they use 23% less water than their monthly water budget. The work site is landscaped with 100% drip irrigation, which is significantly more efficient than conventional sprinklers. The company’s average monthly irrigation water use is just 14% of its budgeted volume.

The water savings realized at the Foothill Ranch facility makes KMC a true WaterStar Certified Business.

  • Low-flow-rate aerators are used on all faucets in the facility.
  • Low-flow-rate flush valves are used on all restroom fixtures.
  • Landscaping consists mainly of succulents, which require little water.
  • The landscaping uses a drip system for irrigation, which greatly reduces outdoor water consumption.
